The Process

1 — INTRODUCTION TO PROSTHETIC CARE

The first step on the road to success is a visit with one of our patient care coordinators. Our focus during this time is to understand your needs and goals when it comes to your daily activities. We will then layout a timeline for restoring your mobility and answer any questions you might have. New amputees are welcome to set up a consultation before or soon after amputation surgery.

2 — INSURANCE VERIFICATION

We will communicate with your insurance provider and find out the percentage of coverage allowed for your prosthetic care. We will clearly articulate the cost billable to insurance and discuss financial aid if necessary. Your patient care coordinator will happily answer any questions you have regarding coverage from Medicare, worker’s compensation, or any of the other insurance providers we accept. Learn More

3 — CONSULTATION WITH PROVIDERS

After you feel confident in the financial plan offered by your insurance, we will consult with your medical providers to gather the documentation necessary to continue with your care.

4 — EVALUATION

One of our licensed practitioners will evaluate the condition of your residual limb. He or she will take measurements of your limb and map out sensitive areas to create a comfortable, stable socket. If you are a new amputee, the practitioner may schedule a follow-up appointment if your amputated limb is still too swollen and needs more time to heal.

5 — FABRICATION

The practitioner and technicians will work diligently in our fabrication lab to design your socket. The socket will be paired with state-of-the-art technology appropriate for your activity level to build a prosthesis that meets your functional needs. The lab will have your new prosthesis ready within 7-10 business days.

6 — DELIVERY DAY

Delivery day is an exciting day. The practitioner will coordinate this appointment with you, your caregivers, and your physical therapist. The fit of the socket will be evaluated to ensure comfort, and you will be taught how to properly put it on along with your liners and limb socks. The practitioner will make sure you are stable in your prosthesis and ready to start physical therapy.

7 — CONTINUOUS CARE PLAN

Because you are the heart of Robard Bionics, we are committed to you not just up to delivery of your prosthesis but continually afterwards. Your coordinator will reach out every three months to monitor your progress, address potential changes in the fit of your socket, and provide supplies as needed. We are always a call away, and we are committed to meeting your needs so that you can stay happy and healthy.
